The 14th matchday of the season was a thrilling one, with some teams settling further into their positions, and others sinking to the bottom of the standings.
Carabobo cut short Portuguesa’s state of grace
Friday’s fixture kicked off with Juan Domingo Tolisano’s team beating Portuguesa 1-0 with a goal just minutes into the game. Carlos Lujano, defender of the team from the city of Valencia, scored the only goal of the match with a powerful shot from outside the box. Portuguesa were unable to build on their streak of five consecutive victories that they had carried into this match.

On Saturday, two teams that had been going through a very negative streak faced each other. The home side were Rayo Zuliano, who had not won in six games – with four draws and two defeats. On the other side, Monagas, who in their last nine matches (FUTVE League and Copa Libertadores), had five defeats, three draws and just one win.
After a hard-fought match, the Maracaibo side made their home advantage count and won 1-0, with a goal from José Ochoa in the 73rd minute of the match.
Better later than never
After the match between Rayo Zuliano and Monagas, Deportivo Táchira hosted Angostura at their stadium, with the intention of continuing to consolidate their second place in the standings. During the 90 minutes, the team coached by Eduardo Saragó tried and tried, but their efforts were mostly in vain. In the 95th minute of the match, Maurice Cova would give his side the victory with a goal from the penalty spot.
In the evening, Caracas drew 1-1 with La Guaira. As a result, both teams missed the chance to get into the top four of the FUTVE. Daniel Saggiomo was sent off for the visitors after 95 minutes for a double yellow card.
FUTVE2 League threatens Mineros
It is no news that the Guayana team is having a terrible season, with negative results and a change of coach in the middle of the championship. This Sunday they visited the stadium of Estudiantes de Mérida, who are in the fight to get into the Copa Sudamericana places. The match ended 3-1 in favour of the locals, a result that means the fourth consecutive defeat for Mineros, who continues to sink to the last position of the championship.
