La Guaira extend lead

Two goals in a span of five minutes gave Deportivo La Guaira their third straight victory and the comfort of a four-point lead at the top of ‘Group Central’ in the Venezuelan Primera Division, following a 2-0 win against Academia Puerto Cabello.

Angelo Peña after 65 minutes and José Miguel Reyes just four minutes later, scored for Deportivo La Guaira to extend their lead to four points after second-placed Gran Valencia were beaten 1-0 by Carabobo.

It was the third game running that Gran Valencia failed to win.

UCV hammer Monagas

Universidad Central de Venezuela continued their revival in ‘Group Oriental’ with a 3-0 rout over Monagas. (UCV).

After sitting bottom of the table, UCV changed manager and have gone on a run of three wins in their last five. This result was by far their most impressive and means they climb off the bottom of the table.

Daniel Mosquera was the man of the match after scored a brace and registering an assist.


Caracas sitting pretty

Caracas are now five points clear of Monagas after they beat bottom-of-the-table LALA 2-0, following two goals in the last 20 minutes.

A header from Leonardo Flores finally broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, before Osei Bonus added a second to give the group leaders their third consecutive win.

Táchira find a way to win

Deportivo Táchira recovered from dropping points last week to beat Zulia go four-points clear at the top of the table, having played a game more.

Anthony Uribe, who returned to Venezuela after playing in Argentina and Colombia, scored his first goal for Táchira. A header from Pérez Greco doubled their lead., Yanowsky Reyes scored his ninth goal of the season for Zulia, but it did not prevent them losing their sixth game of the group stages.
