Peñarol win first game

50-time Uruguayan champions Peñarol won their first match of Group B against Deportivo Maldonado 4-1 after two successive defeats.

David Terans gave the hosts the lead after two minutes, then Matías Britos made it two after 22 minutes – taking advantage of a defensive mistake.

Bottom-placed side Maldonado went down to 10 men when Marcelo Estigarribia was dismissed.

Just before the hour mark, Britos grabbed his second. Facundo Batista scored a consolation in the 69th minute for the visitors, before Mario Saralegui’s side made it four through Luis Nicolas Olivera Moreira.

River Plate top of Group B

River Plate won their third consecutive game of the Intermediate Round beating Boston River 3-0 with José Neris scoring his third goal in three matches in Group B.

Adrian Elloys Leites Lopez and Matias Arezo scored the other two goals for the visitors.

They have scored nine goals in three matches, conceding just one goal.

Boston River have one win from three games and have lost their past two matches, conceding five goals.

Nacional maintain 100% record

Nacional maintained their 100% record in Group B with a 3-0 win against Defensor Sporting.

Goals came from Gonzalo Bergesssio, Carlos Rivero and Joaquin Hernandez.

They sit second in Group B on goal difference and face River Plate in their next match.
