Spurs and Leicester fighting at the top

Harry Kane scored a headed winner in the 88th minute to give Tottenham a 1-0 win against West Brom and put Jose Mourinho’s side top of the table for a brief spell. It was his 150th Premier League goal for Spurs.

Leicester City beat Wolves 1-0 as a result of a Jamie Vardy penalty, and that win put the Foxes on top until after the international break.

Harry Kane has scored seven goals and has eight assists in Spurs’ first eight matches, while Heung-Min Son has eight goals and two assists for the North London.

Vardy has eight goals for Leicester in six starts while new 19-year-old centre-back Wesley Fofana has made an impression – making 18 clearances. Leicester have conceded just two goals in his four starts.

Leicester City have won 29 Premier League games since Brendan Rodgers was appointed manager. Only Liverpool and Manchester City have won more. Jamie Vardy has scored the most goals in that period (40).

Upcoming fixtures

Tottenham have a tough run of upcoming games before Christmas. They play Manchester City next, before matches against Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Leicester and Wolves.

Brendan Rodgers’ side face Liverpool, Man United, Everton and Spurs in their next seven.

Southampton make strong start

Southampton were temporarily top of the Premier League on Friday night after they beat Newcastle United 2-0 at St Mary’s.

Che Adams scored his third goal in four games for the Saints – who have 16 points from eight games.

Since Southampton lost 2-1 to Everton in November 2019, only Liverpool and Man City have won more Premier Leagues games than Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side
