Irapuato through to the final

Jaidivert Hurtado scored an injury time winner as Irapuato beat Inter Playa 2-1 to progress to the final of the Mexico Liga Premier play-offs, where they will face Cruz Azul Hidalgo.

After the first leg finished goalless, the tie was evenly poised with both sides believing it was their year.

The match

Irapuato struck first after six minutes when Omar Gonzalez’s corner was diverted goalwards by an Inter Playa defender.

However, Emiliano Garcia levelled things up after 36 minutes. Due to Irapuato scoring an away goal, Inter Playa needed to win the game in 90 minutes to progress to the final.

As they pushed for a winning goal in the second half, space opened up for the visitors and Jaidivert Hurtado settled the tie in the 91st minute to send Irapuato to the final.

Cruz Azul Hidalgo edge through

In another close semi-final, Cruz Azul Hidalgo edged through against Alacarnes de Durango by virtue of away goals.

The tie finished 2-2 on aggregate.

The final

Cruz Azul Hidalgo, who finished top of Group 2, will be slight favorites in the two-legged final but is set to be an enthralling tie. The first leg will be played on the 10th May at the Estadio Sergio León Chávez (Irapuato’s home ground), while the second leg will be held at the Estadio 10 de Diciembre.
