Perugia make it four in a row

Sir Safety Conad Perugia defeated NBV Verona in straight sets to stay top of the Italian SuperLega.

Vital Heynen’s team won 3-0 (25-22, 25-22,25-23) their fourth consecutive league win at the AGSM Forum (PaliOlimpia) in Verona.

Perugia have begun the season well, winning the Italian Super Cup against Lube. They are top on 12 points and will be hoping to reclaim the title they lost last year, finishing runners-up after being crowned Italian champions in 2018.

León MVP

Wilfredo León, Perugia’s key man and hitter, was awarded MVP of the match after scoring 20 points in the match and making two important aces. The 27-year-old has scored 74 points so far this season, the third highest in the division.

Solè praises his team

Argentinian middle blocker Sebastian Solè praised his team’s fighting spirit and quality but admitted his side tired in the final minutes.

He said: They (Verona) were in good shape and full of energy, but in the first two sets, we were always on point, fighting and bringing them home with some good plays.

In the third set, we had a physiological drop in some ways, and it is certainly a thing we need to improve on, while they raised their level.”

Perugia play their next game on Wednesday, against Top Volley Latina, who are bottom of the table.

Verona sit in seventh position on six points, having won two and lost two.

Champions also unbeaten

Champions Volley Lube Civitanova are the only other unbeaten team in the division, sitting in second spot on 11 points. They won 3-0 (25-21, 25-23,25-20) against True Volley Monza. Monza are 10th, having lost three of their four games.

Three players top-scored for Lube with 14: Yoandy Leal, Robertlandy Simón and Kamil Rychlicki.
