RW Essen hammer Gladbach II

RW Essen hammered Borussia Mönchengladbach II 4-0 to stay in touch with Borussia Dortmund II at the top of the Regionalliga West.

Christian Neidhart’s side scored four times in the second half to take apart Gladbach II and win their first game in three.

The match

Marco Kehl-Gomez scored twice from corners in three minutes to put the hosts in command of the game.

He guided a header past Jonas Kersken in the 57th minute before once again finding room in the box to find the bottom corner from close range.

The centre-back has scored six times this season for RW Essen.

The visitors missed a gilt-edged chance to halve the deficit when RW Essen goalkeeper Daniel Davari rushed out to deny Jacob Italiano from six yards out.

The hosts sealed the win with a stunning free-kick from Kevin Grund. His free kick taken from just outside the right-side of the penalty area, was struck with incredible accuracy and found the top-left corner.

Amara Conde added a fourth with a low drive after a one-two with Kehl-Gomez.

What it means

RW Essen remain four points behind leaders Dortmund II with a game in hand. It was a much-needed win after only one win in their previous four league games. RW Essen visit bottom-side RW Ahlen on Wednesday.

Gladbach are ninth and have lost four of their last five games.

Important win for Sportfreunde Lotte

Sportfreunde Lotte moved out of the relegation zone with a crucial 1-0 win against Oberhausen. Leon Demaj scored the only goal of the game with 15 minutes remaining. They are now unbeaten in seven games, although five have ended in draws
