Routine win for Dortmund II

Borussia Dortmund II maintained their grip on top spot with a routine 2-0 win against relegation-threatened Lippstadt in the German Regionalliga.

Dortmund were without Tobi Raschl and Ansgar Knauff who were called up to the first team for their match against FC Köln.

The match

The hosts started brightly and almost went ahead when Taylan Duman cut inside past a defender and fired into the side-netting.

Dominik Wanner then raced clear but was denied by goalkeeper Christopher Balkenhoff and the rebound was blocked for a corner.

BVB II did take the lead after 15 minutes when defender Lennard Maloney met Steffen Tigges’ pinpoint cross to score his first goal of the season.

Dortmund were dominant and had chances to extend their lead but failed to test Balkenhoff.

The contest for Dortmund became even easier when Simon Schubert was given a second yellow in the 55th minute.

However, the visitors rallied and had a great chance to equalise from a corner kick but the glancing header went just wide of the far post.

Enrico Maaßen’s side wrapped up victory in the 90th minute when Kolbeinn Finnson added the finishing touches to a Tigges pass.

What it means

Dortmund II gained three important points to win their first game in three after two successive draws. They are four points clear of RW Essen although Essen have a game in hand. Lippstadt had taken four points from their last six but are 18th and remain in the bottom five.

BVB II face second-bottom Bonner SC on Wednesday and will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run to 16 games.
