Tachie equalises to rescue draw for Dortmund

Richmond Tachie equalised with 14 minutes remaining to salvage a 1-1 draw for Borussia Dortmund II against title rivals RW Essen.

Dortmund II remain four points ahead of second-placed RW Essen, who have a game in hand on the Black and Yellows.

Both sides dropped points at the weekend with RW Essen losing 1-0 against Preussen Muenster and not taking advantage of Dortmund’s surprise 1-1 draw against RW Ahlen.

First half

The onus was on RW Essen to take the game to the visitors and they opened up Dortmund II with a brilliant goal.

Simon Engelmann showed great awareness to dummy and let the ball run to Felix Backszat on the edge of the box. He took a touch with his right and played a pass with his left to Engelmann – who carried his run into the box.

Englemann controlled the ball with his right and it sat up perfectly for the German to fire in his 21st goal of the season.

The goal gave Rot-Weiss Essen confidence and they started to dominate the game. However, Dortmund posed a threat and almost pulled themselves level just before half-time when defender Niklas Dams headed against the post from a corner.

Second half

BVB were better during the second half and got a crucial equaliser with just under a quarter of an hour remaining when Richmond Tachie stooped low to head in Alaa Bakir’s cross. It was his eighth goal of the season.

What it means

Dortmund maintain their four-point lead with 13 games to go. Enrico Maaßen’s side are unbeaten in their last 14 league games, dating back to November.
