Wiedenbrueck fightback

SC Wiedenbrueck fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against top-of-the-table Borussia Dortmund II in the German Regionalliga West.

The match

Steffen Tigges scored twice in the opening 15 minutes to put the hosts on course for a 10th home win.

He rose highest to meet a Taylan Duman corner and put Dortmund II ahead in the ninth minute.

Six minutes later, he intercepted a miscued clearance after some confusion in the visitors’ defence to nip in and pass the ball into an empty net.

However, Wiedenbrueck started to establish a foothold in the game and pulled one back when Phil Beckhoff finished off a counter attack with a neat finish through the legs of goalkeeper Stefan Drljaca in the 37th minute.

On the hour mark, it was 2-2. A long ball forward was not dealt with and Daniel Latkowski capitalised on the hesitant defending to score.

Dortmund poured forward in search of a winner but were denied.

What it means

This match was the only game to be played in the division and Dortmund II were unable to win a fifth consecutive game. BVB now have a three point lead at the top, but RW Essen have two games in hand.

Meanwhile, SC Wiedenbrueck are now winless in seven games but they’ll be the happier of the two sides. They sit 13th in the table, six points above the relegation positions.
