Anorthosis beaten

League leaders Anorthosis were beaten 2-1 in a surprise defeat to Doxa Katokopias in the Cypriot first division on Friday.

Doxa spring a surprise

The win was Doxa’s first in seven games after a barren spell in which they had not scored in five successive league games.

It is the second consecutive away defeat for Anorthosis, who lost to rivals AEL Limassol two weeks ago.

Sadik tops the charts

Berat Sadik grabbed his seventh goal of the season from the penalty spot in the 27th minute to go top of the goal scoring charts, before Michalis Manias equalised five minutes after half-time. Mesca scored the winner for the hosts in the 50th minute to record a vital win for the hosts.

Chance for AEL Limassol

AEL Limassol now have the chance to climb above Anorthosis on Saturday, when they host second bottom Ethnikos Achnas.

AEL have won five of their last six games in the league, while the visitors are winless since the opening game – a run of 11 games without a win.

AEL Limassol won both meetings last season, their most recent match ending in a 4-1 win.

Apollon face bottom side

Elsewhere, third-placed side Apollon Limassol travel to Enosis Paralimni. Apollon lost the Limassol derby 2-1 last week but are only three points off the top having played two games fewer than Anorthosis.

However, after winning their opening seven games to the season, they have won just once in their past four.

They have scored the most goals in the league with 22 and have conceded the fewest with nine.

Paralimni prop up the table with seven points from 12 games, having scored only eight and conceded 20. Their last win came against AEK Lanarca on October 2nd.
