Bolívar and Angostura lead the way

In Group Oriental, Bolivar and Angostura are holding the top positions after successive wins in the Venezuelan Segunda Division.

Angostura hammered Minerven 7-0 last weekend but they settled for a much smaller margin of win this week as they edged past Dynamo Puerto 1-0.

The  first half between Dynamo and Angostura was tight and nervy as the two sides cancelled each other out.

But the decisive moment of the game came on the hour mark when a penalty was awarded to the visitors. David Moreno stepped up to score his third goal in two games this season.

Angostura move on to six points from two games and lead the group on goal difference.

Bolivar make it two wins out of two

Elsewhere, Bolívar defeated Libertador 1-0 at Estadio Cachamay de Puerto Ordaz to join Angostura on six points.

Bolivar dominated the match but were denied by the Libertador goalkeeper on multiple occasions.

A formation change at second half made Bolívar more dynamic in attack and they broke the deadlock in the 64th minute after a tidy finish from Keiner Pérez.

Other results

It was another defeat for Minerven, who lost 3-2 to Academia AIFI and sit bottom of the group after two games. Atletico La Cruz drew 2-2 against Deportivo Petare.

Grupo Occidental: Three teams at the top

El Vigía, Academia Rey and TFC Maracaibo are only separated on goal difference at the top of ‘Grupo Occidental’.

El Vigía came from behind to beat Llaneros 4-1 and go top of the group on goal difference.

Llaneros went in front after six minutes through Roberth Patiño, but Jilson Ortiz was in fine form, and he scored a brace inside five minutes to put the hosts in the lead.  El Vigía added two more in the first half to kill the game.

Maracaibo end 100% record

TFC Maracaibo beat Academia Rey 2-1 to end their rival’s 100% record.

Two goals in the second half from Adrián Palacios and Frank Fuentes gave Maracaibo a 2-1 that means they now have six points from three matches.

Duvalier Colmenarez scored five minutes from the end for the visitors but it was to no avail.

Other Scores

Rayo Zuliano 1 ULA FC 0

Ureña 1 JBL Zulia 0

Real Frontera 2 Yaracuy 4
