Opening weekend round-up

The first week of the new Venezuelan Segunda Division was played last week and there were some notable results.


Five-star start for Academia Rey

In the group named ‘Grupo Occidental’, Academia Rey began their season in style, hammering Llaneros 5-1. Academia got their opener in the 15th minute when Hugo Sánchez scored.

Matters only got worse for Llaneros when Duvalier Colmenarez added a second. The hosts added a further three goals with the visitors scoring a consolation goal in the second half.

Atlético El Vigía 2-0 ULA FC

Ureña SC 0-1 Real Frontera

Titanes FC 2-0 Deportivo JBL

Angostura embarrass newly promoted Minerven

In the other group, ‘Grupo Oriental’, Angostura FC scored six goals in the first 45 minutes as they thrashed promoted side Minerven 7-0.

Angostura got off to an electric start and never looked back with David Moreno scoring two goals and assisting two others.

It was a clinical and ruthless performance from Angostura who scored three goals in four minutes at the end of the first half to hammer Minerven on their return to the second division.

Academia AIFI 1-4 Bolívar SC

Angostura FC 7-0 Minerven de El Callao

New round on Wednesday

There is a new round of fixtures on Wednesday for the ‘Grupo Occidental’.

ULA FC will play their opener at home in the historic Estadio Soto Rosa of Mérida when they host Ureña SC. Both teams lost their opening game and they’ll be looking to get off the mark with a win.

After a great start, Academia Rey will have their second match at home hosting Yaracuy FC. One of the second division debutants Rayo Zuliano will have their first away match when they travel to Táchira to face Real Frontera.
