Cerro Largo only side to win

In the six matches to be played in the new Clausura season at the weekend, Cerro Largo were the only side to start with a win as they beat Danubio 3-0. The other five matches ended in draws.

Angel Cayetano scrambled home the opener for the visitors as they took the lead after just nine minutes.

Enzo Borges headed in at the back post on the hour mark after an inviting cross by Guillermo May at the by-line.

12 minutes later, the forward scored his second of the game, lifting the ball over the goalkeeper after another assist by May.

Other results

Nacional, recently crowned winners of the Intermediate round, drew 1-1 against Rentistas in their opening game of the season.

The meeting was a rematch of the Apertura final last October where Rentistas won 1-0 after extra time.

Armando Mendez rounded Yonatan Irrazabal to score in the 10th minute but Rentistas levelled after a miscued clearance presented Nicolas Colazo with an opportunity. His first time shot was deflected past Sergio Rochet.

Meanwhile, Cerro drew 1-1 against ten-man Peñarol. Jonathan Urretaviscaya’s low shot from close range found the net despite Rodrigo Formento getting a hand to it.

Goalkeeper Kevin Dawson was sent off for the visitors after his trailing leg caught Maicol Cabrera.

Cabrera stepped up and equalized from the penalty spot to secure a point against the 50-time champions.
