Manchester United were thrashed 6-1 by Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. It was a record-equalling Premier League defeat for Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s men, and a second league defeat out of three for the Red Devils.
Deadline day signings
On Monday, they confirmed the signings of left-back Alex Telles from Porto, striker Edinson Cavani on a free and teenage wingers Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo from Penarol and Atalanta respectively. Diallo is set to join in January due to work permit regulations.
There has been no signing at centre-back, despite conceding 11 goals in their first three league matches. Harry Maguire was signed in the previous summer for a record £80 million, and statistically their defence was the third-best in the Premier League last season – conceding only seven goals in their last 14 games and keeping 9 clean sheets.
Stats from the new boys
Cavani, 33, is PSG’s record goal-scorer, scoring 200 goals in 301 games for the French club. Since he made his debut for Palermo in 2007, he has scored 250 league goals and only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have scored more in the top five leagues in that time. However, he has not played since March and was troubled by injuries last season.
Looking good, Edi! 🏃♂️💨

27-year-old Alex Telles has joined from Porto and no player has set up more goals at the Estadio do Dragao since it opened in 2003. The Brazilian scored eight penalties for Porto last season and assisted 57 goals in 195 games during his four year spell at Porto.
Man United face Newcastle, PSG in the Champions League and Chelsea in their next three games after the international break.
