Cavaleiro header secures point for Fulham

Ivan Cavaleiro scored a thumping header to earn Fulham a hard-earned 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.

The match

Harry Kane opened the scoring with a fantastic diving header in the 25th minute from Sergio Reguilon’s inviting cross from the left hand side. It was the Englishman’s 11th league goal of the season.

Son Heung-min was denied twice in the first half by Alphonse Areola, and agonisingly hit the post when through on goal at 1-0 in the second half.

That miss proved to be costly as Scott Parker’s side, energised by the introduction of Ademola Lookman, equalised in the 74th minute. Lookman turned Davinson Sanchez inside out and crossed for Cavaleiro to power a header past Hugo Lloris.

Fulham manager Scott Parker said it was ‘’scandalous” that the match was rearranged with just two days’ notice, but his side fought hard to secure their fifth consecutive league draw.

What it means

Spurs drop down to sixth and missed the chance to move into the top four with a win.

Jose Mourinho’s side once again squandered a lead in the second half like they did against Wolves, Crystal Palace, Newcastle and West Ham. They have dropped 10 points from winning positions this season.

Fulham remain 18th but are unbeaten in their last five – their longest unbeaten run in the Premier League since 2012/13.

The West London club collected just one point from their first six matches, but are now just two points behind Brighton in 17th with two games in hand.

Foden the difference for City

Phil Foden scored a well-taken goal as Manchester City beat Brighton 1-0 in the Premier League to move up to third in the Premier League

The match

The 20-year-old controlled a pass from Kevin de Bruyne on the stroke of half time and fired a low shot into the bottom corner with his weaker right foot. It was his fourth league goal and eighth in all competitions – the most by a City player this season.

Man City had many chances to score a second goal with Riyad Mahrez shooting wide when through on goal, and Bernardo Silva hitting the crossbar.

Raheem Sterling blazed over in injury-time from the penalty spot after de Bruyne was fouled by Robert Sanchez. He has now missed his last three penalties, while City have missed seven since the start of last season.

What it means

The win was City’s fourth league win in a row and they’re up to third – their highest position in the league this season.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won their last seven in all competitions and are unbeaten in their last 14.

They sit four points off the top with a game in hand. The Blues have conceded just three goals in the 14-game run and have kept the most Premier League clean sheets (eight). They have also conceded the fewest (13).

Brighton are winless in nine league matches but still lie outside of the relegation zone in 17th.
