Clash of the titans

In the Premier League, Manchester City host Liverpool in the Premier League in a clash between the last three league winners.

Liverpool form

Jurgen Klopp’s side won the title last season with 99 points and lead the table after seven games this season, despite losing 7-2 against Aston Vila. They have 16 points from seven matches – two points ahead of Leicester.

Liverpool beat West Ham 2-1 last week, coming from a goal down to win with Diogo Jota scoring once again. He scored a hat-trick midweek to make it seven goals in 10 matches since he joined the club.

Man City form

Man City have made a slower start to the season than the champions. They have played a game fewer than Liverpool and have 11 points from six games.

Pep Guardiola’s side beat Sheffield United 1-0 last weekend with Kyle Walker scoring the winner against his former club. The Blues are on a four match unbeaten run in the Premier League.

Team news

Gabriel Jesus is fit again for City, a much needed boost as they have been without a recognised striker due to Sergio Aguero’s fitness issues. Benjamin Mendy and Fernandinho are also missing.

Thiago Alcantara is out for Liverpool, while Fabinho, Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are long term absentees but Joel Matip is fit again.

Head-to-head

In the Premier league last season, Liverpool won 3-0 against City to go eight points clear of the top of the table. In the rematch at the Etihad, City won 4-0 against already champions Liverpool – their first match since being crowned champions.
