Liverpool vs City

The last three Premier League titles have been won by either of these teams and they once again go head-to-head on Sunday.

Liverpool were the dominant force last season, winning the league after back-to-back titles for Manchester City.

This season it’s City who are on top. They lead the table by three points with a game in hand, and are seven points ahead of Liverpool with a game in hand.

Liverpool form

The champions were beaten 1-0 at Anfield by Brighton in midweek, their second defeat in a row at home in the Premier League. The defeat to the Seagulls came after two impressive away wins that seemed to jolt Jurgen Klopp’s side back into gear.

But they are without a win at home since the 16th of December – a run of four games. The Merseyside club have also not scored in their previous three home matches.

Manchester City form

City are on a terrific run of form having won their last 13 games in all competitions and their last nine Premier League games. They have conceded just once in the nine victories, keeping clean sheets in their last six games.

The Blues are unbeaten in their last 20 games in all competitions, while they have conceded just two goals in the Premier League since they last tasted defeat in November.

It has been a kind run of games, and this run should be more testing given they haven’t beaten anyone higher than seventh in the league so far this season.

Their record against top-six teams since the start of last season is not particularly strong. They have W4-D4-L7, winning just one out of eight away from home

Head-to-head

The match at the Etihad between the two sides finished 1-1 earlier this season. Interestingly, City have not won at Anfield since 2003 and have won just one of their last 29 at the stadium.

The away side rarely wins in this fixture; Liverpool’s win in 2015 was the only time in 24 Premier League meetings that the visiting side has taken all three points.
