Spurs go top of the table

Son Heung-min and Giovani Lo Celso scored in either half as Tottenham Hotspur went top of the Premier League after they beat Manchester City 2-0.

The match

South Korean forward Son gave Spurs the lead after five minutes, racing on to a Tanguy Ndombele pass and slotting the ball past Ederson. It was his ninth league goal and his 11th goal in all competitions this season.

City had a first-half goal ruled out by VAR for a Gabriel Jesus handball. Pep Guardiola’s side had 66% of the ball and 22 shots but only had five shots on target.

Spurs scored with their second shot on target when substitute Giovani Lo Celso found the net with a low shot after a Harry Kane pass. Lo Celso had only come on to the pitch 35 seconds before scoring.

Stats

Jose Mourinho’s side are top of the table with 20 points from nine games – ahead of Liverpool on goal-difference. They are unbeaten in the Premier League since the opening day defeat to Everton and have won their last four games.

It is the first time since August 2014 that Spurs have finished a day top of the league.

Spurs have conceded just once in their last four Premier League games.

It was yet another Harry Kane assist – his ninth league assist of the season. He had only made eight in his previous three seasons.

Man City lie 13th in the table with 12 points from eight matches. It is their lowest points total at this stage since 2008/09 and 10 goals scored is the fewest they’ve scored since 2006/07. They are eight points behind Spurs with a game in hand.
