Bilic sacked

Slaven Bilic was sacked as West Brom manager today despite his side drawing 1-1 with Manchester City at the Etihad on Tuesday evening.

The Baggies lie second-bottom in the Premier League with seven points from 13 games and have decided to dispense with the Croat, after he secured promotion from the Championship last season.

West Brom have won only one league game this season, with former England manager Sam Allardyce appointed as the new manager.

City held

West Brom earned a creditable draw against Man City, with Sam Johnstone making two fantastic saves in stoppage-time to deny the Blues.

First half

City took the lead through an early goal by Ilkay Gundogan, finishing with aplomb after Raheem Sterling’s cutback.

It was the German’s first goal in 22 games.

The visitors equalised before half-time when a shot by Semi Ajayi struck defender Ruben Dias and beat goalkeeper Ederson.

It was the first goal City had conceded in 608 minutes in all competitions.

Second half

West Brom held out in the second half, with the hosts exerting a lot of pressure on their goal.

They had conceded 25 goals in their first 12 matches – the worst defensive record in the division.

Johnstone made two excellent reflex saves to thwart Raheem Sterling and Gundogan, both from Kevin De Bruyne crosses.

Stats

The draw for West Brom ended a 13-game losing streak against City in the Premier League.

Man City have scored 16 fewer goals this season than they had at the same stage last season.

They have also dropped more points in 12 games than they did in the entire 2017/18 season.
