Alacranes de Durango open up five-point lead

Alacranes de Durango lead by five points in Group 1 of the Apertura divison in Mexico’s third tier with just nine games to go.

Hector Jair Real’s side beat Rebocreos de la Piedad 2-0 on Saturday to extend their lead at the top of the league and win their first game in three matches after two games without a win.

Captain Willian Guzman scored twice, including an excellent free kick to open the scoring in the 33rd minute.

Alacranes de Durango are top with 29 points from 13 games, Reboceros are thirdsix points off the top.

Colima stay second but were beaten 2-1 by Tecos to fall further behind Alacranes. Mineros de Fresnillo are fourth after their sensational 20-19 penalty shootout win against Leones Negros II.


Cruz Azul hold narrow lead

In Group 2, it’s a lot tighter at the top with just five points separating the top four teams.

Cruz Azul Hidalgo top the table with 34 points from 13 games but Cafessa Jalisco are just two points behind, despite playing an extra game. Cafetaleros de Chiapas II are third with 30 points.

Inter Playa del Carmen sit fourth with 26 points and have played just 12 games. They beat Pioneros de Cancun 2-0 in their most recent game.


Fixtures

Inter Playa have the opportunity of going above Cafetaleros de Chiapas II when they meet on Saturday. League leaders Cruz Azul host third bottom Club Canoneros Marina also on Saturday.
