Round four of the MLR season did not disappoint with more than 30 points scored in every game of the weekend.
In the Western Conference, Austin Gilgronis remain unbeaten whilst Rugby New York, from the East, matched that feat with a thumping win over Dallas Jackals to start the season 3-0.
Gilgronis conquer Seawolves to remain unbeaten
Austin Gilgronis overcame a bruising battle with the Seattle Seawolves to ensure their unbeaten start to the season remained at 4-0.
The Gilgronis Fly Half, Mack Mason was the game’s top scorer with 10 points as he kicked two penalties and two conversions. While Argentinian winger Julian Dominguez now leads the MLR try scoring leaderboard with four.

It was a closely fought affair, in testing conditions under the lights at the Starfire Sports Complex in Austin, but ultimately the attacking intent of the Gilgronis saw them over the line. They made 86 carries to Seattle’s 74 and only just edged them on passes completed with 100 to the Seawolves 99.
It wasn’t all gloom for Seattle. Prop, Tim Metcher became only the second player in MLR history to achieve 50 caps. In that time, he has earned back-to-back Championship titles with the Seawolves.

Rugby New York thrash Jackals to top Eastern Conference
With seven tries and an all out attack, Rugby New York rolled out a devastating performance on the Dallas Jackals to win 41-5.
Prop forward Kalolo Tuiloma scored two tries and finished the top score with 10 points for New York.

It was a painful blow on a Jackals team looking for their first win in their inaugural season. Furthermore, what was a steady looking defense has now fallen apart. After round four they are the second worst defensive team having conceded 159 points from four games.
Toronto Arrows leave D.C winless with thumping win
In another high scoring match with a defensive capitulation, the Toronto Arrows hammered Old Glory DC 29-5 in Leesburg.

Sam Malcolm’s penalty and three of four converted tries saw the Fly-Half pick up the game’s top scorer with nine.
It was the front pack for Toronto that ultimately edged the game. With 12 scrums won to Old Glory’s seven and 131 breakdowns completed to Old Glory’s 98, it gave them a solid grounding to let the backs attack.
Giltinis up to second in the Western conference
In the other two fixtures from the weekend, LA Giltinis overcame New England Free Jacks in a tight defensive display.
There were three separate try scorers for the Giltinis, as they won by four points to make the final score 19-15. While Beaudein Waaka’s boot was key to keeping the Free Jacks in the game as he scored the only 3-point penalty and one of the two converted tries.

In Houston, the San Diego Legion beat the Saber Cats by 11 points with a great 31-20 victory.
It moves the Legion up to second in the Western Conference with 3-1 record. With the second highest rating for points scored in the league, with a total of 127 after this weekend, the Legion are a big threat to other defences.
With full back Joe Pietersen notching a match-high 16 points from the boot and the key personnel of former internationals Ma’a Nonu and Chris Robshaw, they were just too much for the Saber Cats.

Can the LA Giltinis continue their positive run and inflict a first defeat of the season on the Austin Gilgronis in the next match up?
While Rugby New York, who travel to the Free Jacks next, sit top of the Eastern Conference with no losses so far.
