Ajaccio relegated
Ajaccio have been relegated from the Ligue A division after their 3-1 (21-25, 27-25, 20-25, 18-25) defeat to Nantes ended their stay in the top tier of French volleyball.
The Corsicans have been battling relegation for weeks and their relegation was just a matter of inevitability. They have lost 21 of their 25 games this season.
Nantes got the all-important win to preserve their status for another season, while Nice also survived by the skin of their teeth despite losing their 20th match of the season against Tours.
Tours and Cambrai both win
Tours won the match 3-0, and have won their last three matches to move up to fifth. They are just two points behind Chaumont, who were beaten 3-2 by Cambrai in a match that went against the form books.
It was a much-needed win for Cambrai, who were on a four-game losing streak and fearing for their play-off place. Paul Villard scored 17 points and made three blocks for the Cambrésiens.
Final play-off spot to go to the death
Poitiers will have to wait to the final day to guarantee their play-off spot. They were beaten by second-placed Cannes 3-1 with five players racking up 10+ points for the club from the south of France.
Poitiers have a two point-lead over Sete with one game to go after Sete beat Tourcoing to close the gap.
Poitiers face Nice on the final day, while Sete play Toulouse. A win for Poitiers will secure their spot but a defeat opens up the chance for Sete to steal eighth place.
