Cannes overturn 2-0 lead to reach semi-finals
Cannes came from two sets down to beat Tourcoing and set up a meeting with Cambrai in the semi-finals of the Ligue A play-offs.
For the first time ever in French Ligue A volleyball, a quarter-final went to the death. Cannes edged past Tourcoing 3-2 last week, but Tourcoing levelled it up with a 3-1 win in the second leg and it came down to a third game.
Tourcoing won the first two sets and were in the ascendancy. But the Dragons showed incredible resilience to turn the game on its head. Lincoln Williams scored 22 points while Oleksiy Klyamar made 18 points and Taylor Averill added 16 points for the nine-time champions.
Cambrai dream season continues
Cambrai, who were promoted to the Ligue A last season, have made it to the semi-finals of the play-offs after they beat Narbonne 3-1 to complete a brilliant two-legged victory.
The Cambrésiens were not expected to reach the play-offs. They were then big underdogs against a Narbonne team who came third in the regular season.
But two convincing wins has Gabriel Denys’ side dreaming. Yannick Bazin was efficient with the serve, making four aces, while top scorer Daniel Cagliari was once again influential, scoring 24 points.
Montpellier whitewash Poitiers to set up Chaumont semi final
Montpellier are through to the semi-finals after they eased past Poitiers 3-0 for the second game running. The regular season winners will play Chaumont, who knocked out two-time defending champions Tours after a 3-0 win.
Semi-finals
The semi-finals first legs are on Wednesday with the second legs to be played on Saturday.
