As we enter Fecha 12 of the Liga Profesional, Atletico Tucuman keep on rolling at the top of the division. River Plate and Boca Juniors continue to lack consistency, and there was a six-goal thriller between Racing and Tigre.
Tucumán win again
Atletico Tucuman kept their place at the top of the league after a 2-0 victory over Newell’s Old Boys.
The division’s only unbeaten side took the lead in the 74th minute when Ramiro Ruiz Rodriguez’s cutback found Ramiro Carrera, who blasted the ball into the net.
The victory was sealed in the 98th minute, when Newell’s committed their whole team forward (including their goalkeeper) for a late free-kick but the ball was cleared, allowing Renzo Tesuri to break free and tap into an empty net.

Amazingly, Tucuman’s victory – their 6th in a row – came despite having just 36% possession. However, they did just edge it on shots with 12 to Newell’s 9.
Tucuman faces Arsenal Sarandi in their next game as they look to continue their winning streak.
Boca humbled by Patronato
Boca Juniors suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Patronato at the Estadio Presbítero Bartolomé Grella.
The home side took the lead in the 23rd minute when Alexander Sosa squared the ball to Axel Rodriguez who squeezed it into the net.
Five minutes before half time, a Raul Lozano cross found Sosa who headed into the net. The victory was sealed in the 80th minute when Hector Jonas Acevedo free-kick was deflected past Agustin Rossi.
Los Xeneizes had slightly more possession with 61%. Both sides also had the same amount of shots on target (8), but Patronato were able to take their chances effectively.
Boca face Platense in the next round of fixtures which will see Mauro Zarate come up against his former side.
River punished by inconsistency
In the same weekend that former River sensation Julian Alvarez scored his first goal of his Manchester City career, his old club lamented yet another defeat.
Los Millonarios were playing Sarmiento and conceded in the 31st minute when Fernando Martinez’s through ball found Guido Mainero who placed the ball in off the post.
Just before half time, they had their second as Maniero turned provider as his corner was headed in by Federico Andueza.
River’s goal came in the 67th minute, as Juan Quintero’s cross was glanced in by Emanuel Mammana. But it was too little too late, and the match finished 2-1.
Remarkably, Sarmiento had just 17% possession in their victory. Marcelo Gallardo’s side had a considerable amount of shots compared to their opposition – a staggering 28 to 5. However, when it came to shots on target, River managed just one more 4 to Patronato’s 3.
River will go up against Independiente in Fecha 12 as they attempt to get back to winning ways.
Racing denied late on in thriller with Tigre
Racing and Tigre were involved in the game of the weekend playing out a 3-3 draw at El Cilindro. You can watch the full stream of the game here.
The home side drew first blood, as Enzo Copetti turned in a Matias Rojas cross in the 9th minute. Leonel Miranda doubled their lead in the 28th minute with a strike which goalkeeper Manuel Roffo should probably have saved.
Tigre pulled one back five minutes later as Mateo Retegui sent his penalty into the bottom corner. Then just before half time, Rojas whipped in a free kick into the top corner.

However, the second half saw the visitors complete their comeback with Ijiel Protti robbing the ball off Gaston Gomez before rolling the ball into the net in the 62nd minute.
The equaliser came in the 88th minute. Retegui headed in after there was a bit of pinball in the box. Racing had a late chance to win it but Tomas Chancalay’s header was well saved by Roffo.

Fernando Gago’s side will be disappointed to give up their two-goal lead and ultimately draw the game. His side had 56% possession and managed more shots on target with 7 to their opponent’s 5.
Gago’s side will play Barracas Central in their next match. They are currently in 4th place, 6 points adrift of first place.
