Fecha 6 of the Liga Professional featured losses for both Boca and River, while Gimnasia and Newell’s remain top and Carlos Tevez’s Rosario Central suffered another defeat.
Boca beaten by Banfield
Boca Juniors suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of Banfield. Giuliano Galoppi scored an impressive scissor kick to give his side the lead in the 21st minute.

Their lead doubled as Ramiro Enrique tapped in an Agustín Urzi pass. Enrique completed the first-half rout with a high shot past Javier Hernán García.
Enrique Bologna made a fantastic save onto the crossbar from a powerful Aaron Molinas to deny Boca from getting one back in the second half.
It was not a good day for Sebastián Battaglia’s side, despite having 67% possession. They could only conjure up 5 shots on target which was the same as Banfield. Los Xeneizes have now lost three and won three in the league.
River edged out by Huracan
River Plate suffered a 3-2 defeat by Huracan, leaving Marcelo Gallardo’s side in 12th place with two wins, two draws and two defeats.

The match did not start well for River who went down to ten men in the 30th minute as Jonatan Maidana was sent off. Huracan took advantage of this and scored soon after as Jonathan Galván fired in.
Their lead was doubled as Franco Cristaldo tapped in after Gabriel Gudiño squared the ball to him leaving Franco Armani stranded.
Los Millonarios got one back, as Leandro Gonzalez headed in in the 69th minute. However, just two minutes later Huracan extended their lead when Franco Sebastian Cristaldo smashed his penalty into the bottom corner.
Julian Alvarez scored in the 93rd minute from a Jose Paradela corner but it was too little too late.
Gallardo’s side had more possession with 55% but Huracan were more clinical with 7 shots on target to River’s 3.
Gimnasia’s impressive run continues
Gimnasia extended their unbeaten start to the competition as they beat Defensa y Justicia 1-0. The goal came in the 78th minute when Tomás Muro’s kept the ball up before his deflected volley looped into the back of the net.
Despite the victory, Gimnasia had just 38% possession and fewer shots on target with just 4 to Defensa’s 6.
Game of two halves for Newell’s
With Gimnasia winning Newell’s Old Boys needed a victory over Patronato to keep their place at the top. However, they had to settle for a 2-2 draw.
Newell’s took the lead in the 7th minute as Victor Ramos headed in from a Ramiro Sordo corner.
They then doubled their advantage just before half-time when Sordo tapped in a Francisco Gonzalez cross to send an already rocking Estadio Marcelo Bielsa into overdrive.

However, the second half did not go according to plan for La Lepra. In the 55th minute, Hector Jonas Acevedo’s cross was guided in by Sebastian Medina.
Then in the 94th minute, Jonathan Herrera’s cutback was placed into the top corner by Raul Lozano to rescue a point for Patronato. The result means Newell’s are level on points with Gimnasia at the top of the table but have to settle for second place on goal difference.
The match saw Newell’s have less possession with 41%. However, they had more shots on target with 5 to Patronato’s 4 and would be bitterly disappointed to concede so late on.
Rosario Central lose again
Carlos Tevez’s first taste of management has not gone to plan as struggling Rosario Central lost their second match in a row under El Apache. Aldosivi were the victors this time as they scored late to take a 2-1 victory.
Rosario conceded in the 33rd minute as Andres Rios tapped into an empty net. Tevez’s side levelled in the 62nd minute when Cristian Baez bundled in from a corner.
However, Aldosivi secured the victory late on when Braian Martinez low cross was fired into the net by Leandro Isaac Maciel.
Despite the scoreline, there were positives to take for Tevez’s side. They had more possession with 54% and more shots on target with 5 to Aldosivi’s 4. They kept the ball well but will be looking to be more clinical in future matches something which as a former striker Tevez knows all about.
