Boca Juniors are now 9 unbeaten in the Liga Profesional, and have been steadily climbing the table since the beginning of August. Atlético Tucumán, who sit top of the league, got a much-needed win to keep their title ambitions alive. Here’s all the action from Fecha 20.
Gimnasia slip up
Gimnasia suffered a late 1-0 defeat to Central Córdoba. The goal came in the 93rd minute when Hernan Lopez played in Gonzalo Torres who fired the ball into the top corner.
Córdoba had more possession with 58% and when it came to shots on target they had just 1 to Gimnasia’s 2.
The result leaves El Lobo second in the division. They play Tigre who are unbeaten in their last five games. They need a win to keep their chase of the leaders alive.
Tucumán retake the lead
Atlético Tucumán’s 2-1 win over Argentinos Juniors at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona moved them back to the summit of the division.
Tucumán took the lead in the 29th minute when Cristian Menendez produced a fine piece of solo play to turn and slot the ball into the net.
Menendez got his second 9 minutes later as he finished into the bottom corner from a Renzo Tesuri cross.
However, Menendez was sent off in the 72nd minute for a high foot on Miguel Torren. Nicolas Reniero’s cross was headed in by David Zalazar in the 96th minute but it was too little too late for Argentinos.
Despite the victory, Tucuman had just 32% possession and just 5 shots to Argentinos’ 19.
El Decano face Estudiantes in their next match as they look to keep their place at the top of the league.

Boca undefeated in 9 games
Following their victory in the Superclásico, Boca Juniors beat Lanus 1-0 thanks to another goal from Darío Benedetto. However, they came unstuck against Huracan as they drew 0-0.
It was a frustrating game for Boca who had 58% possession. But there was some very wayward shooting from both sides, Los Xeneizes had 9 shots with just 2 being on target. Whilst Globo had 1 shot on target from 6 attempts.
Hugo Ibarra’s side is unbeaten in their last ten games which puts them third in the division, level on points with Gimnasia with 36. However, Boca has a goal difference of just 3 to Gimnasia’s 10.
Next up for Boca is a trip to Godoy Cruz who have won their last two games.

River’s mixed form harming their title chase
River Plate suffered another defeat after the Superclásico, losing 2-1 to Banfield. Although they picked themselves up from these defeats to beat San Lorenzo 1-0.
Emanuel Mammana scored the game’s only goal as his strike from outside the box squeezed past Augusto Batalla.
Marcelo Herrera was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 74th minute but Los Millonarios held on for the victory.
It was a fairly even game, Marcelo Gallardo’s side just edged the possession with 53%. Regarding shots, it was fairly even too with both sides having 2 shots on target.
Next up for River Plate is a home match with Talleres Cordoba. They are currently 6th in the league with 32 points, six points behind the leaders in need of a run of positive results.
