There is optimism and anticipation for the commencement of the 2023/24 Guatemalan football season.

Teams in both the National League and First Division are ready to embark on a road to supremacy.

There will also be preparation for three teams in inter-continental competitions. Cobán Imperial, Xelajú MC and Communicaciones are all set to compete in the CONCACAF Champions League and CONCACAF Central American Cup respectively.

Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Guatemala

Notably, this season brings a significant shift in the tournament’s structure, following the request of the Guatemala coach.

To provide greater support to the National Team, the number of matchdays has been reduced from 22 to 16.

The 12 National League teams have been divided into two groups, Group A and Group B. This strategic division aims to afford the National Team ample time for intensive training sessions and microcycles to enhance their performance.

The final phase of the tournament remains unchanged, featuring the Quarterfinals, Semi-finals, and Finals, with the top eight teams progressing.

Furthermore, a notable departure from previous seasons is the scheduling time of fixtures. To capture a wider audience and increase the presence in the national market, games will no longer be held simultaneously.

Liga Primera División de Guatemala

Renowned for its fierce competition, the First Division continues to serve as the pinnacle of promotion dreams to the top echelons of Guatemalan football.

The tournament structure remains consistent, with 20 teams allocated into two groups based on their geographical locations.

The winner of the Playoffs is automatically promoted to the Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Guatemala, while the remaining teams fight with the bottom two teams of the Liga Nacional to determine the last places in the top league.

Brace yourself for a feast of football as Guatemala’s finest talents take center stage, striving to etch their names in the annals of footballing greatness.

Welcome to the 2023/24 Guatemalan football league!
