León go six points clear

Club León came back from 2-1 down to beat Club America 3-2 to go six points clear at the top of the Liga MX.

The match

The league leaders took the lead in the 24th minute through Fernando Navarro, on his 200th league appearance for the club. He raced on to a through ball from Jose David Ramirez to guide it past the onrushing goalkeeper.

Francisco Cordova equalised for the most successful side in Mexican football with a diving header at the back post. Henry Martin then put the visitors ahead in the 42nd minute after León lost the ball in midfield.

Jean Meneses equalised on the stroke of half-time after Angel Mena put him through on goal with the goalkeeper. Mena was at the heart of the winning goal as he jinked past a few defenders and pulled the ball at the by-line for Luis Monte to finish.

Some stats

The win gave León their fifth win in a row in Liga MX. Midfielders Fernando Navarro and Luis Montes were named in the team of the week for León, who are unbeaten in their last 11 games. Club America drop down to fifth, eight points off the top of the table.

Other results

There was a win for Tigres, who beat Cruz Anul 2-0. It was their fifth win in a row. Forwards Nicolas Lopez and André-Pierre Gignac scored the goals. Gignac has 10 goals in 14 matches and is joint top-scorer in the division.

Second-placed side Pumas also collected three points in Liga MX. They sit second in the table after a 1-0 win over Toluca.

Bottom of the table Atlético San Luis secured an important win – they beat second-bottom Querétaro 2-1 to reduce the gap between the teams to one point.
