Champions look for response

Liga MX Guardianes champions Cruz Azul will hope to register their first win of the season when they travel to face Santos Laguna on Monday (12pm BST).

Juan Reynoso’s side suffered a shock 2-0 home defeat against Mazatlán, with the visitors scoring twice from three shots on target in the game.

Cruz Azul had 61% of the ball, but they were unable to turn possession into outright dominance.

They are without important first-team players due to players being called up by Mexico for the Gold Cup.

Santos Laguna begin season with a win

Santos Laguna, who finished fifth last season in the Clausura season, started their season with an impressive 3-0 win against Necaxa.

In an exciting game with 35 shots attempted from the two teams, Santos Laguna were clinical, with goals from Ferney Otero, Jesus Ocejo and Diego Valdés Contreras.

León hammered on opening day

Club León, champions in 2020, could not have started the season with a worse result as they were thrashed 4-0 by Pachuca in their opening game of the season.

All four goals came in the last half-an-hour, stunning ‘Los Panzas Verdes’.

Ariel Holan’s men host Club Tijuana with a positive result and a response in need.

Two sides who registered fantastic results on the opening day face each other as Pachuca visit Mazatlán tomorrow at 1am (BST).
