Liga ACB match reports: Real Madrid lead the way

Real Madrid on top

Real Madrid are top of the Liga ACB after two convincing weeks in the space of three days.

Win vs Estudiantes

On Sunday, they beat Estudiantes 93-77 and then on Tuesday, they defeated Real Betis 84-65 in Seville.

The win against city rivals Movistar Estudiantes was Pablo Laso’s 700th match as coach for Los Blancos and his side had to fight back from 23-18 down at the end of the first quarter to win.

Madrid scored 23 points without reply to take control of the match. Point-guard Facundo Campazzo scored 15 points while Trey Thompkins scored 14 and made five rebounds. Four players in total scored double digit points for Real Madrid.

Win vs Betis

Against Real Betis, the match was tied 31-31 at the halfway stage but Madrid dominated thereafter and won the third quarter 26-18.

Tavares in-form

Edy Tavares scored 13 points and made 11 rebounds for Real Madrid, while Jaycee Carroll and Sergio Llull both managed 14 for the league-leaders.

Tavares is ranked second for rebounds in the league with 50, Laurynas Birutis is top with 52.

It is the Whites’ third best start to a season in the ACB era and their fourth consecutive away win this season. Meanwhile, their results in the EuroLeague are very different, losing four of their five matches.
