Italian SuperLega round-up: Top two win again

Perugia win 3-0

After seven weeks of the season, Sir Safety Conad Perugia are still unbeaten and lead the table. They beat Porto Rubur Costa 3-0 in a comfortable victory for Vital Heynen’s side. It’s a record start for the side, who are on 21 points.

Perugia were missing four players (Fabio Ricci, Sebastian Sole, Aleksandar Atanasijević and Max Colaci) due to COVID 19 and had the disruption of not being able to train during the week. However, they were still able to dominate the first two sets – winning 25-18 and 25-20. The final set they won narrowly – 26-24.

León vs Pinali

Key man Wilfredo León contributed with 23 points, he made two aces and three blocks. He is top for aces in the division with 24 and is ranked in the top four in the league for most points won (130).

Porto Rubur Costa’s main man Giulio Pinali scored 14 points in the match and is ranked third in the league for most points won (131). His side are second-bottom with one win from seven games.

Lube also win

Cucine Lube Civitanova also made it seven wins in a row with a 3-0 win against third-placed Milano. They won 25-20, 26-24 and 25-22.

Osmany Juantorena top-scored for the hosts with 15 points while Yoandy Leal scored 13. Lube are on 20 points, just a point behind Perugia.

It was Milano’s second defeat of the season and their first in four games.

Other results

Elsewhere, Volley Calipo’s five match winning run was ended by Gas Sales Piacenza, who won 3-1. Also, Modena beat second bottom Kioene Padova 3-1 and jump up to fourth in the league.
