Perugia lose to in-form Trentino

Sir Safety Conad Perugia were beaten 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 19-25, 21-25) by Trentino in their first game of 2021.

Perugia still lead the table by four points, but Volley Lube have a game in hand.


Perugia off day

The league leaders were missing key men Roberto Russo and Aleksandar Atanasijevic and only two players registered double figures for the Block Devils: Sebastian Solé (11) and Wilfredo León (16).


Trentino on a roll

Ricardo Lucarelli top-scored with 16 for Trentino against Perugia. Trentino carried their form from the win against Perugia into Wednesday’s match against Milano which they won 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-15). They have now won their last eight matches.


Abdel-Aziz top of the charts

Nimir Abdel-Aziz scored 13 for Trentino in the comfortable victory. They sit third in the table with 33 points. after the fantastic run of form. The Dutchman has scored the most points in the league this season with 314 and the most aces, 52.


Volley Lube make strong start to new year

Like Trentino, Volley Lube have started 2021 impressively. They beat Perugia 3-2 in a classic in the last game of 2020, and they have maintained the momentum gained from that win.

Ferdinando De Giorgi’s side beat Kioene Padova on Saturday 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-18) and then Gas Sales Piacenza on Tuesday 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 25-19).


Top scorers

Yoandy Leal managed 17 points against Piacenza while Kamil Rychlicki scored 13 and 15 points respectively in the wins against Padova and Piacenza.


Fixtures

Perugia travel to third bottom Porto Robur Costa on Sunday, while Volley Lube play face Milano.
