Nearly three weeks have passed since the Regionalliga West season finished and it’s time to take a look at how the season panned out and what we learned.
Dortmund II too good
Borussia Dortmund II lost just one game in the league last season but it took until the final day for them to secure the title and promotion to the third division.

Enrico MaaΓen’s side played some scintillating football at times, scoring 94 goals in 40 league games, averaging 2.35 goals per game.
The goals were mostly shared around but Stefen Tigges was the main man, scoring 22 for the Black and Yellows. They lost just once in the entire season, losing in November and then going unbeaten for the remaining 27 games.
Dortmund II won 15 and drew five of their 20 away games, conceding just 10.
RW Essen favourites for promotion next season
RW Essen will be looking to go one better next season after just missing out on promotion. They finished with 90 points, winning 27 of their matches and conceding three fewer goals than the league winners.
They had the best defence in the division last season, conceding only 28 goals – a rate of 0.7 goals per game.
Simon Engelmann was prolific, the 32-year-old scored 29 goals and finished as the league’s top scorer.
