The match
A penalty from Tobias Raschl after 20 minutes was the difference between the sides in a fiercely contested game.
Dusseldorf caused their own issues after a sloppy pass in their own half. Richmond Tachie arrived first to the ball and was brought down in the area.
Raschl made no mistake from the spot to put the Black and Yellows in front and score his fifth of the season.
Dusseldorf nearly levelled in the second half when a miscued clearance from Franz Pfanne was sent goal-wards and goalkeeper Luca Unbehaun had to dive at full stretch to save.
Dortmund II striker Stefen Tigges looked certain to wrap up victory with six minutes remaining but was twice denied by goalkeeper Anton Mitryushkin and had a shot blocked.
What it means
BVB held out to extend their unbeaten run to 17 games. Enrico Maaßen’s side have won their last three games and now hold a nine-point lead ahead of RW Essen, who dropped points against Oberhausen. Dusseldorf II lost their first game in seven league games.
