BVB come back from 2-0 down but drop points again
The title race is back on in the Regionalliga West after Borussia Dortmund II dropped points for the third time in four games, coming from 2-0 down to salvage a 2-2 draw against Homberg.
The result took them back to the top of the league, but only on goal difference. BVB still have a game in hand on RW Essen but they are certainly feeling the pressure as the battle for promotion goes to the death.

First half
Dortmund started on the front foot and had chances in the opening minutes to take the lead with Tobias Raschl and Stefen Tigges going close.
Homberg defended resolutely as they sought a result to steer clear from relegation. They were resilient and they frustrated the hosts.
One of the biggest chances fell to Homberg as Said Harouz’s stinging shot from close range was palmed away by Luca Unbehaun in goal.
In the 38th minute, the league-leaders were stunned as they fell behind. Kingsley Marcinek showed brilliant skill down the left to evade three Dortmund players and fire in a cross that deflected off the foot of Unbehaun and then inadvertently struck Kolbeinn Finnsson as the ball rebounded into the net.
The goal gave the visitors lots of confidence as they went into the break in front.
Second half
Seven minutes into the second half, Homberg doubled their lead. After a cross from the right-hand side, Danny Rankl steered a header into the far corner to put Michael Boris’s side two-nil up.
The goal rocked the Black & Yellows and they had to act. Homberg sat deep and protected their lead but they were unable to prevent the league’s top scorers.
Roared on by 500 Dortmund fans, the deficit was cut in half in the 63rd minute. Richmond Tachie’s pull-back reached Dominik Wanner, who placed a shot into the far-corner with his left foot.
Enrico Maasen’s side sensed a comeback and threw everything at Homberg. With 11 minutes remaining, they found themselves level. A free-kick was given just outside the box and Raschl stepped up. His low strike managed to go through bodies and beat the goalkeeper.
JAAAAAAA!!!
Der Ausgleich durch Tobi #Raschl! Und weiter! 👏👏👏 #BVBU23 pic.twitter.com/h8FLxTXeLC— POKALSIEGER 2021 (@BVB) May 29, 2021
Raschl’s celebration was muted, he wanted to get the ball and pursue a winning goal.
What does it mean?
That was not to be as Homberg held out for a priceless point.
They are now four points clear of safety with two games remaining. Dortmund II are now top on goal difference but still have a game in hand on Tuesday against bottom-of-the-table Bergisch Gladbach, who need a win to survive relegation. Dortmund now require four points from their final two games to guarantee promotion but have now drawn their last two games.
