Marquet double puts TSV top
Sascha Marquet scored twice as TSV Steinbach rose to the top of the German Regionalliga Südwest table with a 2-1 win over Homburg.
It was a return to winning ways after their 2-1 defeat to Hessen Kebel in their previous match. Thomas Brdaric’s side have 39 points from 19 games.
Marquet has now scored 12 goals in 17 league matches this season
FSV Frankfurt are tied on points at the top and only behind the leaders on goal difference. Their match with Kickers Offenbach was postponed.
Freiburg II draw
In third, just a point behind the top two are Freiburg II. Their 1-1 draw with Hessen Kassel means they were knocked off the top of the table.
Kiliann Sildillia headed in a free kick in the 23rd minute to give the hosts the lead.
However, a misjudged header from defender Sandrino Braun saw Hessen Kassel draw level. Braun headed over the helpless Niclas Thiede and into the net to level the scores.
Freiburg manager
Manager Christian Preusser was frustrated with the result.
“It’s really annoying, that’s the bitter thing: We did really well, we were dangerous with standards and got chances out of the game. That was all okay, but it wasn’t the result. And of course I can’t be satisfied with our exploitation of chances.”
