Promotion chasers stumble

TSV Steinbach and Ulm both dropped points to fall five points behind leaders Freiburg II.

Steinbach drew 1-1 against TSG Balingen, with Balingen playing with ten men for 65 minutes.

The match

The visitors did take the lead against the high fliers with Marc Pettenkofer getting on the end of a cross and heading downwards to put his side in front after four minutes.

Felix Heim was sent off after 25 minutes but they managed to repel the hosts until the hour mark, when Enis Bytyqi finished off a rebound from a close range.

What it means

Steinbach were unable to get a winner and are now five points behind Freiburg II after their third successive draw. TSG Balingen are 10th but are winless in their last seven games.

Ulm draw

Ulm also came from behind to salvage a 1-1 draw against Sonnenhof Grossaspach.

Joel Gerezgiher put Grossaspach ahead with a stunning goal in the 36th minute. He picked the ball up on the edge of the area, before turning past a defender and curling a shot into the top corner.

The equaliser was another top drawer goal. Daniele Gabriele came off the bench to place a precise free kick into the top corner from 25 yards out to equalise for Ulm.

What it means

Ulm’s four match winning run was ended but they are unbeaten in their last 11 games. Grossaspach picked up a crucial point in their battle for survival. They are without a win in seven games and are three points from safety.
