Freiburg II extend lead

Freiburg II need a maximum of nine points to become champions of the German Regionalliga Südwest after their lead was extended to seven points.

The match

Christian Preusser’s side ran out 2-0 winners against strugglers Schott Mainz to win their eighth successive game.

Konrad Faber’s cross was inadvertently turned in by Schott Mainz defender Giorgio del Vecchio in the 40th minute to open the scoring. A mistake at the back was then punished by the league leaders as Kevin Schade set up Emilio Kehrer to score his 10th goal of the season to double Freiburg’s lead.

What it means

Freiburg have won 10 of their last 11 games, and have stretched their lead over second place to seven points. They also have a game in hand. Freiburg II face bottom side Stadtallendorf on Sunday.

Elversberg go second after thumping win

Elversberg have climbed to second after they thumped Kickers Offenbach 3-0. It was their seventh win in a row and their 12th win from their last 15 games.

A Marco Fritscher own-goal gave them the lead, before Luca Durholtz and Nico Karger sealed a resounding win for Horst Steffen’s men, who have leapfrogged Offenbach in the table.

Elversberg have 75 points, a point ahead of Offenbach and seven shy of Freiburg II in top spot. They will hope to continue their great run of form when they visit Hoffenheim II on Saturday. Offenbach host RW Koblenz.
