Flum the difference as Freiburg II extend lead
Freiburg II’s lead at the top of the German Regionalliga Südwest was extended to six points after they edged past TSG Balingen 1-0 and their rivals TSV Steinbach failed to win.
Captain Johannes Flum bagged the winner in the 78th winner to secure a vital three points for the visitors.
The match
The league leaders had to work hard to create chances, with their best opportunity in the first half coming after some good link up play between Junior Eyamba and Guillaume Furrer. Eyamba played in Furrer, who cut inside but stumbled and his shot was smothered.
Emilio Kehrer then thought he had given Freiburg II the lead with a header but he was adjudged to have been offside.
TSG Balingen rarely threatened but they came very close to going ahead in the second half when Sascha Eisele low driven shot just went wide of the post.
Christian Preußer’s side finally broke the resistance of the hosts with 12 minutes remaining. After some probing, Kehrer laid a pass off to Flum on the edge of the box. He fired a low shot into the bottom corner to give Freiburg II their 19th win of the season.
