Dortmund II draw in stormy conditions

Borussia Dortmund II were held to a surprise 1-1 draw against bottom-of-the-table RW Ahlen.

The match

The Black and Yellows were expected to carry on their superb run of form and win a routine fixture but that was not the case.

The conditions were unhelpful and a real leveller with the match suspended for 25 minutes due to a storm.

Both teams struggled with the severe conditions with the match goalless at half time.

Enrico Maaßen’s side took the lead just after the hour mark through Tobias Raschl with BVB on their way to a gritty win.

However, seven minutes later, Sebastian Mai equalised for RW Ahlen and secured a point for the bottom side.

What it means

Dortmund II are unbeaten in 13 games and are on 61 points from 26 games while the hosts remain bottom on 17 points – nine points from safety. They have won just twice in 27 league games as relegation looks a foregone conclusion.

RW Essen fail to take advantage

Dortmund actually gained a point on their nearest rivals as RW Essen were beaten 1-0 by Preussen Muenster, who have won seven of their last nine games and are in third place.

Preuseen Muenster have closed the gap to RW Essen and are now four points behind them, but have played two games more.

RW Essen trail Dortmund by four points but have a game in hand. They face off on Wednesday evening in a significant clash.
