PSV beat Utrecht at home for 25th year in a row

Fourth-placed FC Utrecht came to Eindhoven knowing that they had lost their previous 24 encounters at PSV in the Eredivisie. After only 12 minutes, van der Hoorn scored with a header from a corner and Utrecht begain to believe that they could cause an unlikely upset. PSV struggled in the first half-hour, but Cody Gakpo – returning from an ankle injury that kept him out for six weeks – tied the game. Gakpo intercepted the ball himself and after an assist by Mauro Junior, placed the ball in the bottom left corner. In minute 35, a PSV corner was horrendously misjudged by goalkeeper Paes, leaving Ramalho with a tap-in to make the score 2-1.Β  After half time, PSV continued their search for more goals, and Ritsu Doan delivered in minute 51 with a shot in the right corner of the Utrecht goal. Mwene put the final nail in the coffin for the visitors with their fourth. The Utrecht wait for a victory at PSV goes on.

Ajax vs. Willem II over after 25 minutes

Ajax played on Thursday to give them more rest ahead of their upcoming Champions League game against Sporting Lisbon. That game itself won’t have any influence on the group standings though, with Ajax already qualified for the knockout stages. Going into this game, Willem II had lost their previous fourΒ games and have been sliding down the table in the past few weeks. Antony crushed any hope that Willem II might cause an upset, with a beautiful shot that curled into the left top corner. Three minutes later, Martinez made it 2-0 – scoring from a well-taken corner. After 25 minutes, Antony scored his second of the game with a shot in the right bottom corner of their opponent’s goal – more or less ending the game for Willem II. Ajax might have taken their foot off the pedal, but still managed to add two more goals to their tally. Klaassen and Danilo concluded the game at 5-0.

Feyenoord score five; Linssen top scorer again

Feyenoord were also up against a side that had lost their previous four games in Fortuna Sittard. After a start with some high pressure on the Fortuna defense, Guus Til opened the scoring with a delightful chip over the oncoming goalkeeper van Osch. It was only a matter of time before the second goal to be scored, and Linssen did so with a strong header. In the second half, Linssen scored his tenth of the season with another header – moving him clear of Seb Haller and teammate Guus Til as the league’s top scorer. Just 10 minutes later, he had the chance to score his hat-trick with another header that missed, inadvertently setting up Sinisterra to score the fourth. Jahanbakhsh scored the last goal of the game – topping off a five-goal afternoon for Feyenoord.

Here’s how the league table looks after this round of games.
