It was an eighth win of the season for Deportes Tolima in Round 14 of the Colombia Liga BetPlay Dimayor.

Reminder of Format and Standings
There are two league tournaments played in one season throughout the year. The first, currently in progress, is the Apertura. The top eight teams at the end of the regular Apertura league standings will be split into two groups of four. The winners of each group will face-off in a two legged final to be crowned Liga BetPlay Dimayor 2024-I (Torneo Apetura) champion.
The finals will take place around mid-June for Liga BetPlay Dimayor 2024-I (Torneo Apetura).
Then around mid-July the Liga BetPlay 2024-II (Torneo Finalización) commences.
Before we analyse game week 14, let’s see the current state of play in Colombia’s top league.
It’s a fiercely competitive league as only five points seperate the top seven teams.
Leaders, Deportes Tolima are seeking a fourth championship overall and a third Liga BetPlay Dimayor-I (Torneo Apetura). While close challengers Deportivo Pereira are aiming for a second championship and very first title in Liga BetPlay-II (Torneo Finalización).
Surprisingly, perennial champions Atlético Nacional (17 titles), Millonarios (16 titles) and América de Cali (15 titles) are all struggling. We may even see a scenario were none of the three make it to the semi-final group stage.
Round 14 Review
Deportes Tolima recovered to the top of the league after registering an 8th win of the tournament.
They beat Alianza Petrolera 2-0. Yilson Rosales and Cristian Trujillo scored both goals in the 21st and 77th minutes.
In a battle at the top of the table, Atlético Bucaramanga came from behind to win 2-1 away at Deportivo Pereira.
After conceding in the 16th minute to a Faber Gil goal, Bucaramanga scored two in the second half. The first was a penalty from Sambueza. Then in the 73rd minute Cordoba Musquera netted to turn the fixture around.
The win for Bucaramanga lifted them to second position, level on points with Deportes Tolima.
Meanwhile, Deportivo Pereira dropped to fourth after Independiente Santa Fe comfortably won 3-0 against Patriotas Boyaca to claim third place.
