Leverkusen beaten

Bayer Leverkusen lost for the second successive game as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt.

The match

Nadiem Amiri gave the visitors the lead in the eighth minute with a cheeky back heel that went through the legs of Kevin Trapp.

12 minutes later, Frankfurt levelled. Djibril Sow played in Amin Younes who cooly finished into the net. It was his first Bundesliga goal since 2013.

Nearly 10 minutes after half-time, the hosts went ahead. A cross-field pass was misjudged by Mitchell Weiser, and Daichi Kamada ran unopposed into the box.

His low cross was inadvertenly turned in by Edmond Tapsoba.

What it means

Leverkusen were beaten away from home for the first time in the Bundesliga, and dropped to third. Frankfurt have climbed to eighth in the table after successive wins. They were without a win for nine games before winning their past two.

Leipzig climb to second

Leipzig leapfrogged Leverkusen into second after they edged past Stuttgart 1-0. Emil Forsberg was tripped in the penalty area but missed from 12 yards as Gregor Kobel superbly kept out his penalty with a trailing foot that struck the crossbar.

Dani Olmo broke the deadlock midway through the second half, finishing at the back post after Angelino’s cross was deflected into his path.

Stuttgart almost found an equaliser with five minutes to go but Peter Gulacsi pulled off a great reflex save to deny Waldemar Anton.

What it means

Stuttgart are winless at home this season despite sitting in 11th, while Leipzig are just two points off the top.

Dortmund win first game in 2021

Jadon Sancho scored his first Bundesliga goal of the season as Borussia Dortmund won 2-0 against Wolfsburg to go fourth in the table.

Wolfsburg were unfortunate to not go a goal up when Yannick Gerhardt’s shot was deflected against the post.

Marco Reus was denied by goalkeeper Koen Casteels, who pulled off an athletic save to deny the German.

Just before half time, Sancho squandered a chance to put Dortmund ahead, scuffing a shot wide from Haaland’s shot.

The Wolfsburg goalkeeper carried on his form in the second half, saving superbly from a Haaland strike.

The hosts took the lead in the 66th minute with Manuel Akanji heading in from Sancho’s corner.

Sancho then raced clear on goal in stoppage time to finish the game and net his first league goal of the season.

What it means

Dortmund are up to fourth, while Wolfsburg fall to sixth. The win was Dortmund’s first at home for four games, after three successive defeats.

Other results

Hertha Berlin beat hapless Schalke 3-0 to extend the bottom club’s winless run. Schalke are without a win in 30 Bundesliga games. It was Christian Gross’s first match as Schalke manager.

Hertha sit 12th, while Schalke are bottom with four points from 14 games.

Borussia Monchengladbach ended a four game winless run as they beat Arminia Bielefeld 1-0. Breel Embolo scored the only goal.
