Bundesliga round-up: Leipzig top, Dortmund win the derby and Bayern score five

Leipzig stay top

RB Leipzig came from behind to beat ten-man Hertha Berlin to stay top of the Bundesliga table.

Jhon Cordoba finished off a rapid counter attack to score his third Bundesliga goal of the season to give Hertha the lead after nine minutes.

Three minutes later, Dayot Upamecano equalised for the hosts with a powerful strike to score his first goal since 2018, after the visitors failed the clear the ball from a set piece.

At half-time, Hertha Berlin defender Deyovaisio Zeefuik was brought on and within five minutes he had been sent off for two yellow cards.

In the 77th minute, Cordoba fouled Willi Orban in the box and Marcel Sabitzer scored the winner for Julian Nagelsmann’s side from the penalty spot.

Leipzig are unbeaten in the Bundesliga, making their best ever start to a campaign,. They lead the table on 13 points and have conceded just three.

Dortmund extend Schalke winless run

Dortmund won comfortably in the Revierderby against Schalke, winning 3-0 at the Signal Iduna Park.

The result extends Schalke’s run of Bundesliga games without a win to 21 games.

It took 55 minutes for the hosts to break the deadlock with Manuel Akanji pouncing to finish after Frederik Roennow parried Raphael Guerreiro’s shot.

Erling Haaland scored his fifth league goal of the season when he dinked the ball over Roennow and into the net after Jadon Sancho sent him through on goal. It was Haaland’s 18th goal in his 20th Bundesliga match.

 

Mats Hummels made it three with a strong header from Guerreiro’s corner in the 78th minute.

Dortmund are third in the table – level on points with Bayern and one point behind Leipzig.

Bayern rout

Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick as Bayern Munich thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 5-0 at the Allianz Arena to win their third Bundesliga game in a row.

Bayern have become the first team to score 22 Bundesliga goals after five games

In bad news for Bayern Munich, Alphonso Davies looked to suffer a nasty ankle injury and had to be replaced. He is expected to be out for six to eight weeks.

More Lewa goals

Kingsley Coman freed Lewandowski in the box to open the scoring in the 10th minute and the Polish striker made no mistake with his left-foot.

His second came in the 26th minute when he headed Joshua Kimmich’s corner into the corner.

Lewandowski scored his 10th Bundesliga goal of the when he turned in Douglas Costa’s cross to make it 3-0.

He is the first player to have scored 10 Bundesliga goals in the opening five rounds of games. The 10 goals have come in just four starts – after coming on as a substitute in Bayern’s 4-1 defeat to Hoffenheim. He is averaging a goal every 37 minutes this season.

Musiala record

Just four minutes after coming on, Leroy Sane added a fourth with a unstoppable finish into the top-corner from distance.

17-year-old Jamal Musiala scored his second goal for Bayern, becoming only the seventh player to score more than one league goal before his 18th birthday.
