Boca’s dismal start continues

Boca Juniors’ woeful start to the season continued as they were beaten 2-0 by San Lorenzo at La Bombonera.

The match

Despite having 59% of the ball, Boca didn’t have a shot on target and were abject up top.

San Lorenzo took the lead after 31 minutes when Angel Romero’s cross was met by Gino Peruzzi, who capitalized on some slack marking.

Three minutes into the second half, the hosts imploded as goalkeeper Agustín Lastra charged out of his own goal to try and challenge Julián Palacios but he missed the ball and brought the forward down in the penalty area.

Nestor Ortigoza made no mistake from the spot and coolly finished to put San Lorenzo 2-0 up.

Miguel Ángel Russo’s men were unable to test Sebastián Torrico in goal and were missing the crowd to roar them on.

What does it mean?

It ended up being a comfortable victory for San Lorenzo, who have provisionally gone top with seven points from three games.

It has been a dismal start for Boca, who have two points from three games and sit 19th.

Racing Club register first win

Elsewhere, Racing Club secured their first victory of the season after beating Aldosivi 2-0.

It was an entertaining game with 36 shots on goal between the sides. Racing Club broke the deadlock with 52 minutes on the clock when Javier Marcelo Correa scored.

Ignacio Pitti added a second in stoppage time to give Juan Antonio Pizzi’s side their first win of the season after draws in their first two games. Aldosivi have lost two of their first three games.

Lanus face River Plate test

Lanus take on River Plate tomorrow (1am BST) with the aim of making it three wins out of three this season. They have been the great entertainers so far, scoring eight goals in their first two games. River Plate started with a defeat but hammered Union 4-0 to bounce back.

Patronato and Godoy Cruz are the other two sides with 100% records; they face Independiente and Atletico Tucuman respectively this evening.
