ACB round-up: Real Madrid keep up 100% record, Barcelona in second

Real Madrid remain unbeaten

Real Madrid enjoyed a productive week, beating Valencia and then Bilbao to make it nine wins out of nine in Liga ACB.

The Whites firstly beat Valencia at the weekend 86-78. They grabbed control in the first quarter, going 28-6 ahead. Jaycee Carroll played a big part in the win, scoring 17 points and making two assists.

Valencia are 10th in the division with four wins and four defeats from their eight games.

Narrow win vs Bilbao

Los Blancos then narrowly beat Bilbao in a topsy-turvy match that saw Bilbao rally after going 44-29 down at half-time.

Bilbao won the third-quarter 31-14 and were 74-73 in front with three minutes to go. Madrid however responded with Sergio Llull key once again, scoring 14 points.

Tavares top for rebounds

Trey Thompkins added 16 points and six rebounds, while Edy Tavares contributed with nine rebounds and four blocks. Tavares has made 62 rebounds this season, the joint highest in the division.

Bilbao came close to the win, but have now lost six of their seven matches and are in 17th place.

Barca end Tenerife unbeaten record

Elsewhere, Barcelona beat Iberostar Tenerife 81-74 to end Tenerife’s unbeaten start to the Liga ACB season.

Álex Abrines scored 16 points for Barcelona with four three-pointers, while Nick Calathes added 14 points and made five rebounds and five assists.

Giorgi Shermadini was the star for Tenerife – scoring 19 points and making six rebounds and two assists. He has scored 128 points this season in seven matches – the 10th highest in the division.

Tenerife stay second with six wins from seven games while Barcelona sit in third with six wins from eight matches.
