Barrow come from a goal down to win; Forest Green draw a blank

Friday night saw Barrow come from a goal down to beat Newport County 2-1.

Finn Azaz’s first goal for the Exiles had given them the lead early on, but the home side fired back through Josh Kay after the break.

The comeback was completed by Josh Gordon, who found the top corner from the edge of the box.

Forest Green were held to a goalless draw by Tranmere Rovers.

Josh Hawkes struck the post in the first minute for the visitors and Matt Stevens replied in kind on the hour mark. Forest Green were unable to add to their 18 goals scored prior to kickoff.

Calum MacDonald was dismissed late on for the visitors; their second red card in as many games.

Oldham shock Rochdale; Scunthorpe beaten again; Salford saved by late equaliser

Beleaguered Oldham Athletic took just their second league win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Lancashire rivals Rochdale.

The Latics’ well-documented woes were eased when Davis Keillor-Dunn beautifully curled in the only goal of the game with half an hour left.

Aaron Morley and Eoghan O’Connell both struck the woodwork but Oldham were able to hold out.

Scunthorpe United slipped to yet another defeat; this time a 1-0 reverse at home to Port Vale.

Ben Garrison struck the only goal of the game after Tom Conlan juggled the ball through the Iron back line.

The win was their fourth in five matches and their first at Scunthorpe since 1973.

Salford City played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at home to Northampton Town.

Paul Lewis was completely unmarked as he headed in the opener; his first goal for the Cobblers. Matt Lund volleyed Salford level but Mitchell Pinnock restored the visitors’ lead with 15 minutes to go.

Salford had Ashley Eastham to thank as his 93rd minute equaliser spared City their sixth defeat in eight matches.

Hartlepool lost their 100% home record but earned a creditable 1-1 draw against in-form Exeter City.

Luke Molyneux’s low effort was only ‘Pool’s’ second goal in five games and was cancelled out by a well-placed Sam Nombe header just before half time; the Grecians are now unbeaten in seven.

Out-of-form pair Harrogate Town and Stevenage played out a 0-0 stalemate. Jamie Reid’s effort before half time was brilliantly cleared off the line by Ryan Fallowfield while in stoppage time, Luke Norris’ header met the same fate.

Stevenage are now without a win in nine matches and after a strong start, Harrogate haven’t taken maximum points in four.

Goals from Will Ferry and Nick Tsaroulla gave Crawley Town a 2-1 win at home to Bradord City; John Yems’ side are now unbeaten in five at home.

The Bantams made it nervy for the hosts as Callum Cooke halved arrears late on but are now without a win in seven in all competitions.

Colchester United continued their unbeaten away start with a 0-0 draw at Swindon Town.

Alan Judge and Freddie Sears both thought they’d opened the scoring but were chalked off for offside and handball respectively. United now sit 16th in the table, while Swindon are ninth.

Sutton United have certainly found their feet in League Two; latest visitors Carlisle United were on the receiving end of a 4-0 thrashing at the VBS Community Stadium.

An early Corey Whelan own goal was followed by a brace for Alastair Smith and David Ajiboye’s second goal of the campaign. The long trip for the Cumbrians was made worse further by a red card for Manasse Mampala.

Bristol Rovers ended their long wait for an away win as they beat Walsall 2-1 at the Banks’s Stadium.

Kieran Phillips opened the scoring for the hosts shortly before half time but late goals from Connor Taylor and gave Joey Barton’s side three points on the road for the first time in 20 attempts.

Free-falling Mansfield Town earned a hard-fought point at high-flying Leyton Orient – the latest side in the top three to draw 0-0.

Tyrese Sinclair was sent off after a clash with Lincoln City loanee Theo Archibald. A man up, Ruel Sotiriou thought he’d won it for Orient, but his low header could only graze the post.
