Scully wins it for Lincoln

Two goals from Anthony Scully saw Lincoln City come back from a goal down to beat Fleetwood Town 2-1 at the LNER Stadium.

The result leaves them 8th in the table, one of nine unbeaten sides in League One. Meanwhile, Simon Grayson’s visitors languish in 22nd, one of only three teams yet to pick up a league point.

Having both exited the Carabao Cup in midweek, it was the ‘Cod Army’ who had the better of the first period. The vibrant Shayden Morris caused havoc throughout the first half, and was played in one-on-one after 15 minutes and drew a smart save from Joshua Griffiths down to his right-hand side.

Tom Clarke and Ged Garner also had early opportunities, but Griffiths was equal to those as well.

Just after the half-hour mark, Max Melbourne fouled the aforementioned Morris 25 yards from goal, earning himself a yellow card in the process.

Danny Andrew, in his second spell with Fleetwood, stepped up and produced a stunning effort that curled into the top corner, leaving Griffiths clutching at thin air, and giving his side a 1-0 lead at half time.

Hakeeb Adelakun came on a half time for the Imps and together with the introduction of fellow summer signing Teddy Bishop from the bench, began to turn the game on its head.

Playing a further ten yards higher up the pitch, Lincoln carved their first clear-cut opportunity with 20 minutes left. A flowing move resulted in Tayo Edun playing in Anthony Scully, who opened his body up and brilliantly found the top corner to level things up.

The game was ambling towards a draw when with barely five minutes to play, Edun – fresh from scoring League One’s first goal of the season last weekend – was upended by James Hill in the penalty area; referee James Oldham given no option but to point to the spot.

Anthony Scully stepped up and casually found the opposite top corner to seal the Imps’ first victory of the season.

Man of the match: Liam Bridcutt

Wycombe flying; Portsmouth, Sunderland and Burton also with 100% records

Wycombe made it two wins out of two at Cheltenham Town; an Oli Pendlebury double sealed a 3-1 victory for a side wasting little time getting re-acclimatized to third-tier football.

Portsmouth made it back-to-back clean sheets to begin their campaign; John Marquis and Marcus Harness were on target in their dominant 2-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra.

Burton Albion and Sunderland also kept up the early pace with Gareth Ainsworth’s men, both claiming 2-1 victories to remain 100% at this early stage.

Bolton Wanderers played out their second straight 3-3 draw in a week, this time throwing away a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 at AFC Wimbledon in another epic game, while Accrington Stanley overcame newly-promoted Cambridge United 2-1.

Morecambe consigned Shrewsbury Town to the foot of the table with a 2-0 win and two first-half goals were enough for Oxford United to overcome Charlton Athletic.

Plymouth Argyle, through Luke Jephcott and Wigan Athletic, through Will Keane both left it late to claim 1-0 home wins.
