The final round of the Venezuelan Primera Division group stages starts tomorrow with many positions still to be decided.

‘El Penta’ eyeing top spot in the group

Portuguesa sit second in ‘Grupo Occidental’ and will win the group if they beat Zulia on Thursday. ‘El Penta’ are in good form, having won their last three games and five of their last six matches.

They came from behind to beat Hermanos Colmenarez 3-1 last weekend;  their seventh win of the season. Portuguesa have conceded just seven goals this season – the fewest of any side.

Zulia take the trip to face José Alí Cañas’ side having ended a run of five matches without a win with a comeback 2-1 win against Trujillanos.

Mauro Andres Sabatini and Junior Paredes scored twice in the final 10 minutes to turn the game around and give Zulia their third win of the season.

It has been a dismal few months for Trujillanos, who have lost all 11 games and face Hermanos Colmenarez in their final game hoping to restore some pride. They have a minus 37 goal difference after conceding 39 goals in their 11 games.

Key final match for Monagas

Monagas travel to Caracas and face Atlético Venezuela in a significant final day clash in ‘Grupo Oriental’. Monagas currently occupy second place in the same group and need just a draw to guarantee a top-two place.

They can also win the group if they win by three or more goals.

Universidad Central have endured a difficult group stage, their first time back in the top division after more than 30 years.

They have just nine points from 11 matches and host Mineros de Guayana, who still has hopes of finishing in the top-two places.

Gran Valencia can finish unbeaten

Gran Valencia have already won ‘Grupo Central’ but have an opportunity to finish unbeaten after 12 games. They have won four and drawn seven and visit Deportivo Lara in their final match.
